Radioheaddrummer Philip Selway has revealed that 2020 will be a year off for the band, saying that the band plan to take “a year away” from working together in 2020 to focus on their other projects.
Speaking toNME, Selway said “there are always conversations going on, but we’ve always got other projects going on,” Selway told NME. “This is kind of the year away from Radiohead, but we will pick that up again.”
Radiohead recently launched anonline digital archive, showcasing a back-catalogue of rarities and archive footage. However, most of Radiohead have been occupied with their own solo projects, Selway included. “For me, [2020 will be spent] writing and recording,” he told NME. “I’m just concentrating on that.”
Singer Thom Yorke has been busy primarily with soundtracks, scoring the 2018 remake of Suspira, as well as the short film ANIMA. Meanwhile, guitarist Ed O’Brien has beensharing songsfrom his upcoming solo record under the name EOB. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood also launched a record label for classical music,Octatonic Records.
Selway concluded by making it clear that this doesn’t mean the end: “watch this space. It always surprises me how things can develop. I never expected to be doing soundtrack work before. All of these things are to develop your musicality and bring their own raft of ideas with them.”
